FAQs

Frequently asked questions

VPN Manager currently provides full visibility into Azure VPN Gateway infrastructure — including site-to-site connections, point-to-site client pools, local network gateways, and BGP routing peers. It is designed for organisations running hybrid connectivity between on-premises networks and Azure, covering all gateway SKUs.

For each site-to-site VPN connection, VPN Manager monitors connection status (connected, disconnected, degraded), ingress and egress bandwidth in real time, tunnel uptime, and the local and remote gateway endpoints. Anomalies in bandwidth or unexpected disconnections generate Event Manager alerts for immediate investigation.

VPN Manager displays all BGP peer relationships established through your VPN gateways — including peer IP, ASN, BGP state, and the number of routes learned from each peer. This is particularly valuable for complex hybrid environments where multiple on-premises sites connect to Azure, and routing tables need regular audit.

VPN gateways are a primary ingress path into your network — a failed tunnel, misconfigured route, or compromised P2S client is a direct security risk. ISO 27001 Annex A.8.20 requires monitoring of network connections. VPN Manager provides the continuous monitoring and alerting evidence that demonstrates this control is operating effectively.
